Annee Kelly

About Annee:

Annee is passionate about art and chooses to paint in acrylic, pastel and charcoal but her favourite medium remains watercolour.  She has been painting professionally since 1983, winning countless awards, participating in numerous joint exhibitions and holding thirteen successful solo exhibitions.  She is represented in renowned galleries around metropolitan and country Victoria and has participated in overseas exhibitions in Canada, China, the United Kingdom, Italy and Greece where one of her paintings was acquired by the Greek Government in Crete for their permanent collection.

Annee is a Graduate in Arts from Monash University and a qualified Secondary language teacher. In this regard, Anne’s training and experience have served her well with her planning and communication skills.  She decided to change direction and pursue her dream when her children started their schooling by painting  full-time and subsequently exhibiting her work, tutoring watercolour, demonstrating for art societies and conducting workshops both in Australia and in Europe, mainly France and Italy, her ninth this September to the South West of France.

Annee is a member/tutor of the Mentone/Mordialloc  Art Group in addition to being a member of the Australian Guild of Realist Artists [AGRA], an exhibiting and signatory member of the Victorian Art Society, a member of the Watercolour Society of Victoria and Australia, a member and committee member of the Melbourne Society of Women Painters and Sculptors, a member of the Sherbrooke, Brighton and Beaumaris societies and recently was included in the Women’s Art Register.

Annee has been a tutor at the Mentone Mordialloc Art Group for over twenty years and several of her students have themselves gone on to exhibit in renowned galleries and art shows in addition to having solo exhibitions of their work.

Annee loves painting en plein-air, inspired by the play of light on her chosen subjects. She paints in a fluid and distinctive style, with a strong sense of composition and sound draftsmanship and will tackle a wide variety of subject matter.  She has had several articles published in The Australian Artist Magazine, the latest being in the 2012 September issue. She is also included in the book “ 50 Australian Artists”.

Annee seeks to impart her enthusiasm for the medium of watercolour and willingly passes on her knowledge and techniques to others, causing one of her students to recently write in the journal of the Watercolour Society of Australia, “Watermark”, “…I also found the Mentone Mordialloc Art Group, where I have undertaken a class with Annee Kelly. I think it is important to have that weekly contact with someone as enthusiastic and technically proficient as Annee is”.

Annee’s classes seek to show her students ways to tackle watercolours successfully and her lessons incorporate tuition on basic techniques such as transparent washes, colour, composition and perspective, together with the all-important notion of tonal values and evaluation of one’s work.  Her classes always start with a short appraisal and are followed by frequent demonstrations. Individual help and assistance is also given freely and everyone works at their own pace.  Most importantly, Annee will strongly encourage each and everyone to develop their creativity and consequently their own personal style.  This is a course which will hopefully benefit the beginner as well as the more advanced.
